Motorcycle Accidents in Florida
Florida is one of the most dangerous states for motorcyclists, with thousands of crashes occurring each year. In 2023, there were over 9,000 motorcycle accidents statewide, resulting in nearly 600 fatalities. Due to their lack of protection, motorcyclists face a much higher risk of serious injury or death compared to occupants of passenger vehicles.
Below are some common causes of motorcycle accidents:
- Failure to Yield – Many motorcycle crashes occur when drivers fail to yield the right of way at intersections, often leading to severe collisions.
- Distracted Driving – Texting, eating, or adjusting the radio while driving can cause motorists to overlook motorcyclists on the road.
- Left-Turn Accidents – One of the most common fatal motorcycle crashes happens when a vehicle makes a left turn in front of an oncoming motorcycle.
- Speeding – Excessive speed reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes for both motorcyclists and drivers.
- Road Hazards – Uneven pavement, debris, and wet roads can be more dangerous for motorcycles than for larger vehicles.
