Tallahassee, FL – Three Seriously Injured in I-10 Crash Near MM 200

Tallahassee, FL (March 31, 2025) - A serious collision along Interstate 10 in Leon County brought traffic to a standstill Saturday morning, March 29. The incident happened near mile-marker 200 on the eastbound side of the highway and involved a pickup truck pulling a utility trailer and a semi-truck hauling 30,000 pounds of food.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash unfolded after the pickup truck, driven by a 65-year-old man from Quincy, experienced mechanical trouble and slowed to just 20 miles per hour on the interstate. As traffic remained heavy in all other lanes, a 39-year-old man driving the semi-truck was unable to maneuver around the slowed vehicle in time. He slammed into the back of the trailer, propelling the pickup across the travel lanes, over the emergency shoulder, and into a guardrail.

The driver of the pickup and two male passengers were all seriously injured in the crash. Emergency medical services transported them to nearby hospitals for urgent care. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured and came to a stop on the north emergency shoulder.

We hope all those hurt in this collision make a full and steady recovery.

Truck Accidents in Florida

Commercial truck collisions are among the most dangerous incidents on Florida’s highways. Each year, the state reports thousands of accidents involving large trucks and semi-trailers. Due to the size and weight of these vehicles, crashes often result in life-threatening injuries and prolonged road closures.

Truck accidents raise different questions than standard car collisions. Below are some key challenges victims often face after an accident involving a commercial vehicle:

  • Determining Liability: Truck crashes often involve multiple parties beyond the driver. Liability can extend to the trucking company, the vehicle maintenance provider, or even the manufacturer if a defect contributed to the crash. Establishing responsibility requires a thorough investigation.
  • Federal and State Regulations: Commercial trucks are subject to strict federal and state rules. These include limits on driver hours, required rest breaks, and cargo weight limits. A violation of these rules can significantly affect how a case is handled.
  • Company Insurance and Legal Teams: Trucking companies often have extensive legal representation and insurance adjusters working quickly to protect their interests. This can make it difficult for victims to obtain fair compensation without legal guidance.
  • Black Box and Logbook Data: Semi-trucks are often equipped with data recorders, also known as black boxes. These tools can provide crucial evidence about speed, braking patterns, and driver fatigue. Quick action is required to secure this data before it’s lost or overwritten.
  • Long-Term Medical Care
Victims of truck accidents may suffer spinal injuries, head trauma, or internal injuries. These often require long-term treatment and rehabilitation, making it essential to pursue adequate compensation to cover future medical expenses.
