Pensacola, FL – Officer Injured After DUI Crash on Creighton Rd
Pensacola, FL (March 21, 2025) - A DUI crash late Monday night left a Pensacola Police Department officer injured after a marked patrol vehicle was struck from behind by an allegedly impaired driver.
On March 18, just before 11:30 p.m., police were preparing to search for a stolen vehicle in the area of Creighton Road. A Pensacola Police Department Tahoe, clearly marked with lights flashing, was slowly traveling in the outer lane as part of the operation. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 48-year-old Wendell Snow, driving a Dodge pickup, failed to reduce his speed and crashed into the rear of the police vehicle.
The impact injured the officer inside the Tahoe, who was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Snow, who reportedly showed strong signs of impairment, attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle but was stopped just blocks away.
He was taken into custody and now faces charges of hit-and-run and his third DUI offense within the past ten years. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
We hope the officer injured in this crash makes a full and quick recovery.
DUI Accidents in Florida
Florida continues to see thousands of alcohol-related crashes each year. According to data from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, more than 5,000 crashes annually involve alcohol-impaired drivers. These incidents often lead to serious injuries or fatalities and can occur at any time of day or night, especially during weekends and holidays.
When someone chooses to drive under the influence, the consequences can be life-altering for victims. Here’s what you should know about injuries caused by DUI accidents:
- Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): Head trauma is common in DUI crashes, often due to the sudden and violent force of impact. TBIs can lead to long-term cognitive, emotional, and physical challenges. Even with treatment, some victims never fully recover.
- Spinal Cord Damage: The spine is especially vulnerable during rear-end and high-speed collisions. Spinal injuries can result in partial or complete paralysis, requiring intensive rehabilitation and lifestyle adjustments.
- Broken Bones: High-impact crashes frequently lead to broken arms, legs, ribs, or pelvises. These injuries can demand surgery and lengthy recovery periods, limiting a victim’s ability to work or perform daily tasks.
- Soft Tissue Injuries: Whiplash and other soft tissue injuries may not seem severe at first but can become chronic without proper care. Pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility are common side effects.
- Internal Injuries: Damage to internal organs is often hidden but life-threatening. Immediate medical attention is critical after a DUI crash to identify and address these injuries early.
