Car Accidents in Florida

Each year, Florida experiences hundreds of thousands of traffic collisions. In 2022, over 394,000 crashes were reported statewide, resulting in more than 250,000 injuries and thousands of lives forever changed. From major highways to local intersections, these incidents happen in every corner of the state—underscoring the importance of safe driving habits and timely legal action when accidents occur.

Below is a closer look at some of the common causes of vehicle crashes throughout Florida:

  • Distracted Driving: Cell phone use, GPS adjustments, eating, and even talking with passengers can take attention off the road. Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of accidents and has become increasingly common. Even a brief glance away can result in a serious collision.
  • Speeding: Drivers who exceed the speed limit or travel too fast for road conditions reduce their ability to react to obstacles. Speed-related crashes tend to cause more severe injuries due to the higher force of impact and can make it more difficult for victims to recover compensation.
  • Failure to Yield: Many accidents happen when drivers fail to yield the right of way at intersections or while turning. This often leads to side-impact crashes or dangerous T-bone collisions, especially on busy streets with limited visibility.
  • Driving Under the Influence: Alcohol and drugs impair judgment, slow reaction times, and increase the risk of losing control behind the wheel. Florida law takes DUI crashes seriously, and these cases can involve both criminal and civil consequences.
  • Running Red Lights or Stop Signs: Intersection accidents often happen when drivers ignore signals or signs. These wrecks are particularly hazardous because they tend to involve cross-traffic and can result in high-speed, high-impact injuries.
