Hit-and-Run Accidents in Florida

Florida has one of the highest rates of hit-and-run crashes in the nation. According to state records, there were more than 104,000 hit-and-run incidents reported in a recent year, many of which resulted in serious injury or death. In beachside communities like Navarre, both local traffic and tourism can contribute to an increased risk of collisions.

Hit-and-run accidents come with several unique challenges that can affect victims in different ways:

  • Lack of Accountability from the At-Fault Driver: One of the hardest parts for victims is knowing the person who caused the crash walked away. This can delay justice and complicate the process of recovering compensation for damages and injuries.
  • Time-Sensitive Investigations: The first few hours after a hit-and-run are critical. Witness statements, video surveillance, and physical evidence at the scene can help identify the driver, but much of that evidence can be lost quickly without immediate action.
  • Limited Insurance Coverage: When the at-fault driver is unknown or uninsured, victims often must rely on their own insurance coverage. Not all policies are designed to handle this kind of claim, and victims may need legal help to receive full compensation.
  • Medical Costs Without a Liable Party: Injuries can result in hospital bills, therapy, and follow-up care. When the driver is unidentified, the victim may initially bear these costs out-of-pocket or through their health insurance.
  • Ongoing Anxiety and Fear: Being the victim of a hit-and-run crash can leave lasting emotional effects. Many people report increased anxiety when driving or being near traffic after the crash, often requiring additional emotional support or counseling.
