Escambia Co., FL – Three Critically Hurt After Truck Crash on I-10

Escambia Co., FL (March 26, 2025) - Early Monday morning, a serious multi-vehicle crash unfolded along Interstate 10 in Escambia County, leaving three drivers hospitalized with critical injuries. The collision occurred on March 24 around 8 a.m. near mile marker 7.5.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a tractor/trailer was heading eastbound on I-10 when it began to hydroplane due to wet conditions. The vehicle lost control, crossed the grassy median, and entered the westbound lanes, colliding with two other vehicles.

Troopers say the front of the eastbound tractor/trailer slammed into the left side of a westbound truck tractor. The force of that impact pushed the truck tractor into a sedan traveling in the same direction, striking its left side. The sedan then veered off the roadway and overturned.

Emergency medical teams responded quickly and transported all three drivers to nearby hospitals. Each of the individuals involved suffered critical injuries, and their current conditions have not yet been released. Investigators continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We hope all three injured drivers make a full and smooth recovery.

Truck Accidents in Florida

Florida’s busy highways see a high volume of commercial vehicles daily, and crashes involving semi-trucks can lead to devastating injuries. According to FLHSMV, over 32,000 crashes involving large trucks were reported statewide last year. These incidents often result in life-altering injuries and lengthy investigations.

Crashes like this highlight how quickly things can go wrong. Here are a few common causes of serious truck crashes:

  • Hydroplaning and Poor Weather: Large trucks are especially prone to losing traction on wet roadways. When a truck hydroplanes, the sheer size and weight of the vehicle can turn it into a deadly force.
  • Driver Fatigue: Long hours behind the wheel can impair a truck driver’s alertness and reaction times. Fatigue remains a top factor in many commercial vehicle crashes.
  • Equipment Failures: Malfunctioning brakes, worn tires, or defective steering systems can all lead to loss of control. Regular maintenance is essential but often overlooked.
  • Improper Loading: When cargo isn’t properly secured, it can shift and throw off the truck’s balance, increasing the risk of rollover or jackknife accidents.
  • Speeding and Following Too Closely: Due to their weight, trucks need more time and space to stop. When drivers follow too closely or travel too fast, the chances of a collision increase dramatically.
