Authorities confirmed that a 72-year-old man from Wewahitchka lost his life as a result of the fatal accident that occurred in Gulf County. The collision took place at around 2:30 p.m. on August 7.

According to local law enforcement reports, a 27-year-old man from Port Saint Joe was driving a Honda Odyssey northbound on Indian Pass Road. As he attempted to remove a cell phone from his pocket while traveling just north of Painted Pony Road, his vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck a man who was fishing. The pedestrian was fatally injured as a result of the accident and pronounced deceased at the scene. At this time, the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
